Just saw Black Death on Star Movies a few Sundays ago. Saw the trailer to this last year and forgot about it. Finally found myself a really good copy. Check it out: Saw this shown on Star Movies last Saturday. They've been showing it quite often lately. As expected, the gory scenes have been cut out. Sean Bean's character was drawn and quartered for not renouncing his faith. I don't know if they actually showed him being ripped to pieces in the unedited version.

It wasn't as graphic as you'd expect some of the bigger budget gore effects in a film like this should be but it was alright.

Saw Conan The Barbarian yesterday and I love the tits! Hahaha! The sex scene was chopped to pieces though. I love the scene when Conan was young and was training with other kids from his village. It's got violent scenes I didn't expect to be shown here.

Saw Conan The Barbarian yesterday and I love the tits! Hahaha! The sex scene was chopped to pieces though. I love the scene when Conan was young and was training with other kids from his village. It's got violent scenes I didn't expect to be shown here. I watched this earlier too and I liked it a lot. It has a lot of similarities to the original Conan the Barbarian movie from the early '80s which made Arnold Schwarzenegger a household name. I hated it when they edited out the boobs and gore. I thought in this day and age, they'd leave it as is because piracy and torrent downloading is making movies more accessible without going to a cinema so we'd get to see those tits and blood anyway. But hell no, our local MTRCB still lives by the same guidelines they followed in the ass-tight '90s. Another movie I watched, albeit a couple of weeks back, was Captain America: the First Avenger. This is the final stand-alone Marvel superhero movie before they congregate in the Avengers. I liked this more than Thor (and I liked it Thor too). Maybe because I read Captain America comic books as a kid. Not much head to head confrontation between the cap and his nemesis the Red Skull. But you know that origin movies like this is only a set up for potential sequels and I for one look forward to the next Captain America movie.

I went to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes today and it was quite enjoyable. I was surprised to see on the credits that Andy (Andi?) Serkis, the guy who played Gollum from the LotR films, played the main character here: a biologically-enhanced chimp with super-intelligence that leads a group of mean-as-hell primates. I don't mind if they turn this into a series as long as they keep up the momentum.
Oh, and anyone here looking forward to the new Sherlock Holmes movie? I saw the trailer for it in the cinema and it was TITS!

Saw The Thing yesterday and I enjoyed it. I know I saw the original being played on channel 9 when I was a kid, but I couldn't remember anything, hehehe... I finally saw The Thing too after a couple of weeks delay. The original 1982 John Carpenter-directed version is one of my favorite sci-fi/horror films. So I was really looking forward to this prequel/reboot. I was a bit apprehensive that it would rely too much on CGI in supplying the monster scenes. After watching it, I was not disappointed with what I saw. The CGI was just alright and the monster was still genuinely creepy especially after it would transform from its humanoid shape. This 2011 version certainly is a worthy remake of the original film.

Watched The Adventures of Tintin and it surely brought back memories of my grade school days. This comic book series was the second most popular book (next to Asterix) borrowed in our school's library. The animation on this movie is superb, it's almost lifelike! I'd like to re-watch it in 3-D. Funny, Tintin looks like a cross-between Jude Law and Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser/Barney from How I Met Your Mother) in this movie. The Adventures of Tintin is like an Indiana Jones-styled film and the action sequences (especially the one through the desert city) is really thrilling. Watch this if you can.

Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story - so I watched this film after the whole MMFF was over to see what the hype was all about. I left the movie house disappointed with what I saw.
The first gripe I have is with the jumpy editing. Some sequences seem to be strewn together with any regard if they related to the next. Blame it on the dispute between the producers and the director. Apparently, the movie was re-edited to quicken the pace. Magkakaroon daw ng director's cut na pang-"Cannes".
My second gripe is with the lead actor ER Ejercito aka Jorge Estregan aka George Estregan Jr. or whatever name he uses this week. His acting simply sucks! He has this irritating habit of doing a lot of hand gestures when delivering his lines. At pang-Best Actor pa pala ang performance nya dito ha! And no amount of make up will mask the fact that he's too old to play Asiong Salonga who died when he was 27 years old.
Na-hype masyado 'tong movie na ito, lalo na sa FB. I guess compared to the other movies in the just concluded Film Peste-val, this was the least worst of them all.

The day they start making Philippine movies that aren't budget disasters -- Ok, fine maybe hindi pa rin ako manonood! But I did enjoy parts of some fairly contemporary lokal films like uhmmm... like... Ok, you got me there. I'd sooner waste money on games and music. Hopeless na ata ang Philippine Cinema. Too much power in the hands of the wrong people.

Watched "The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo" which stars Daniel Craig (aka James Bond) and Rooney Mara, whom you will not recognize but she's the girl who dumped FB's Mark Zuckerberg in the beginning of "The Social Network". She looks like Marilyn Manson in this movie. This is a dark, psychological thriller and has the trademarks of a prime David Fincher film (Seven, Fight Club).
Aside from watching the movie, I was also listening intently to the score as it was co-done by Reznor. He seems to have made a second career for himself as a musical scorer. I'd say his score has a lot of elements of NIN in it.
It was surprising to see that several 'sex scenes' were graciously left uncut. The first one though is a brutal rape scene where in Mara's character is tied up and anally raped. The others were much better though Mara is so skinny. But here boobs are adequate nonetheless.
Watch it 'coz it's one of the better films that have come out so far.

Yeah, there was someone wearing a NIN shirt on the film. I can't remember who it was though, hehehe... I didn't know what to expect of the film because it was my wife who wanted to see it and I'm glad I didn't force her to see the remake of "I Spit On Your Grave." I loved the story and how it was presented. Rooney Mara is hot!
