Just watched "Little Fockers" and it was hilarious as expected. Jessica Alba is still foxy as ever. She now qualifies as MILF, doesn't she? I couldn't say the same for Teri Polo though as she clearly has aged.

Watched "The Rite" last Saturday. Anthony Hopkins is great as usual, but the film is boring as fuck. It's a lame film about exorcism.

Watchmen - Wasn't familiar with the comics/novel but i really like how the film was done. great cinematography plus all those nuances and the way the details like the soundtrack and imagery all fall into place. recently checked out the source and was surprised at how faithfully they laid out most of the scenes. Too bad the original writer refuses to have anything to do with the screen adaptation. Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines - Better than i expected. Felt a bit uncomfortable about how a bunch of the scenes seem content on echoing those done in the previous films. Good for a few chuckles for the first few jokes, but some of them just felt too much like a parody of the previous films. Producers could have easily trimmed this and lumped it in front of the fourth movie. The trademark car [more like big ass trucks] chase was pretty good though. Terminator Salvation - Fourth installment. Wow! This movie felt big. Some of the best action sequences I've seen recently. Did anyone get to see this? I don't remember reading anything about this movie much. But then again i don't remember a ton of things. Eh.. IMO This is a lot better than the majority of the action/summer movies that came out in the last couple years [except The Kingdom you cant mess with Peter Berg + Michael Mann] Fave scene would be the shootout across the minefield. Check it out if you haven't yet.

Imagine a science fiction flick without special effects, just intellectual conversations about the main character a Cro-Magnon who managed to survive for 14,000 years. Parang forum lang na maganda ang usapan na may mga hirit din na nakakatawa at nakakainis.

Speaking of Hammer films. I was surprised to see official Hammer film shirts being sold at one of the posh shops here. I wanted the Frankenstein design so bad, but they only have small sizes left. A lot of Hammer films were locally released. I bought a shit load of them at Astro Vision when they came out. They were in VHS though.

Nung umpisa sabi ko "Paano naging sci fi flick ito?", eh parang despedida lang ng isang teacher at inimbita niya yung mga co-teachers niya sa bahay niya. Then when John (the supposedly Cro-Magnon) got out the Johnny Walker Green and began with his first hypothetical question, your hooked.

Sublime and dreamy but also quite creepy at the same time. Plus, watch out for some masterful editing. Try not to read too much into it before watching.

Watched two movies back to back earlier today. First one was World Invasion Battle: Los Angeles or simply Battle: Los Angeles. This movie has a mish mash of elements from other action/sci-fi movies that you've scene before: Starship Troopers, Independence Day, District 8, War of the Worlds etc. The plot is simple and unoriginal: aliens show up one day and fuck shit up and almost exterminate the world (the focus here being Los Angeles). But ofcourse the human race won't go down without a fight as they eventually find a way to beat the aliens despite their dwindling numbers. This is a US marine propaganda film disguised as a hollywood movie. I wouldn't be surprised if the US Armed Forces secretly co-produced this movie. If you look closely, there's even a scene that has a sign saying 'Support our troops' in war-torn L.A. The high incidence of gun fighting and loud explosions will make action movie fans watch excitedly. But at the end of the day, it's just one of those movies that's worth skipping and waiting to be shown over on cable TV. Minus points for casting my least-favorite actress ever - Michelle Rodriguez. Though she's not as bitchy as her usual characters are in this movie, I still dislike her.

Next is Sucker Punch. Directed by Zack Snyder, the guy who rose to fame directing 300 and Watchmen, this film has all the noticeable elements that were present in these two movies. Actually, this movie is more reminiscent of 300 than Watchmen. The action sequences are great and the special effects are top notch as you would expect. The film feels like a video game (similar to 300) since our heroines are made to go on 'missions' in order to extract the items needed for them to escape their reality. The special effects are top notch and the action sequences are superb, replete with those slow-motion ass-kicking. Casting hot chicks is a plus factor for this film. Abbie Cornish and Jamie Chung stand out among the girls for me. The Fil-Am girl from High School Musical, Vanessa Hudgens is also cast here but they covered her good looks with all that dark make up. The least hot chicks for me are Jena Malone (who should be a familiar face to you, she's grown up now) and ironically, the lead actress Emily Browning (sorry, too young-ish for my taste). Oh, and music plays a major part in this movie. I loved how Bjork's "Army of Me" blared loudly over the cinema speakers as it played soundtrack to one of the fight scenes. The fight scenes are like missions and the settings are a mish mash of samurai, World War I, sci-fi, Lord of the Rings skirmishes. Why is that you ask? 'Coz all these missions and fight scenes are all fantasy and only occur in the heroine's mind. Ang gulo ko ba mag-kuwento? I don't want to explain the plot anymore. Panoorin nyo na lang. I didn't like the ending that much though. Overall, probably the better movie among the two that I saw today. This should probably look better when watched on Blue-Ray.

So I watched Thor last Friday. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but it was still enjoyable to an extent. The best scenes were the ones that were set up in Asgard, be it the battle in Jotunheim, or the confrontations between Thor, Odin and Loki, or the scenes with the other Asgardian warriors. The movie continues the Avengers hype that was hinted in the Iron Man and Hulk flicks, so Hawkeye makes a short pointless appearance to add to that.
All in all, a 6 or 7.

I thought it was at least an 8 or 8.5. Natalie Portman is as pretty as ever and the dude who played Thor made the ladies swoon. I thought I recognized the archer dude in the movie. I remember the actor as the guy in "The Hurt Locker" and had no idea he was supposed to be Hawkeye. There was some good humorous aspects infused in the movie along with the expected action sequences. I just felt that there wasn't enough Thor mightily flying in the sky since a lot of the movie was spent as him being a mortal in earth. Still, another great Superhero movie. How many more Marvel superhero flicks can we expect until they all get together in the Avengers? Basing from the trailers, Captain America is next.

Well, it's not really as bad as how I rated it, but maybe I was hoping for the movie to be as good or better than Hulk or Iron Man I, and IMO they're still better than this film. And yes, the thing about Thor not having enough flying scenes, among other things, left me wanting more. And silly me for not even mentioning Natalie Portman, I thought she looked awesome here compared to Black Swan; Jaimie Alexander (who played Sif) also looked hot. Indeed, Captain America is next, and I believe that's the last thing they'll do before the Avengers movie comes up.

I was down with fever and flu the past days and bought "Outpost" on DVD to make my stay at home productive, hehehe... I love films about the Nazi and zombies, and the plot is about Nazi zombies so I bought it right away. It's about mercenaries on a 48 hour job to assist a scientist/researcher to look for/recover a machine used by the Nazi to experiment in creating super soldiers. I was expecting it to be a gore fest, but the killings (though tastefully done) are limited to the number of mercenaries, I think they were less than ten. The story became total cheese when the scientist/researcher figured to make the machine work for a while, and it deactivated the zombies, hahaha! Total waste of money.
