Man, I was hoping for James Toney to at least have a slightly competitive fight but he looked so pathetic the moment Couture got his first chance at a takedown. I have had visions in my head of Toney catching Couture with an uppercut while looking for a single leg. It was so poor watching Toney look like fish out of water. Couture was, however, class enough to not diss boxing entirely and still gave props to a rather disappointed, and humbled "Light's Out."
Florian did what he does best, and that is to succumb to defeat during big fights. When facing lesser competition, Florian throws punches and combos, always looking to dominate with clear (submission) finishes. His Achilles Heel once again showed against a bigger, powerful wrestler, and this time he fell victim to a rather conservative, yet imposing-his-will Gray Maynard. God now I look at Florian as a softie; he was so tentative and cautious with his striking, and he had no answer to Maynard's takedowns. A disappointing night for the hometown boy.
Speaking of anwers, it's now official: BJ PENN IS FRANKIE EDGAR'S BITCH. What a complete domination of the undisputed champ, who still employed the same speed and quickness only this time with renewed confidence, taking the champion down on several occasions (at will) and showing he wasn't scared to mess with BJ's ground game. No pun intended, but Penn just had ZERO ANSWERS to Edgar's speed and unpredictability, and it'd be interesting to see where this will put Penn in the mix. Personally, I just love it when the underdogs shut up all the naysayers - no one just gave Edgar a chance (other than his dad, and myself - of course, I am elite).
On paper, UFC 118 looked weak compared to last month's PPV; but the bouts delivered and here I am now enjoying some pritong isda for lunch
