I didn't know that they are still active. www.myspace.com/helmetrocks I discovered this band through my friends brother who always order shit (No metal though) from Groove Nation. Out of the countless shit that he forced me to listen to, Helmet and Smashing Pumpkins are the only ones that I got to appreciate. hahaha! I thank him for that, of course. The song "Unsung" got me, and I ended up buying tapes of "Meantime", "Aftertaste", and "Born Annoying" CD. I like the drum and bass patterns and the start and stop riffs. I don't know what they sound like after "Aftertaste" though. Anyone else here like them?

One of the bands to introduce me to the dropped D tuning. I first got a glimpse of them on MTV's 120 minutes with Matt Pinfield. And was surprised that they made a cameo appearance on the 1995 film Jerky Boys: The Movie, they covered "Symptom of the Universe" by Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne was their manager in the flick.

First time I've read about Helmet was in this old issue of Hit Parader; where it also featured Fear Factory and Pitch Shifter. First time I've heard of a Helmet song was in Not Radio. By the way, Pitch Shifter kind of, er... ruled.

Yup, I listened to them in the '90s. They were labeled alternative metal probably because they had alternative band looks with metal band sounds. I liked their simplistic approach to metal (they are metal, right?). The economy of riffs still made my head bang.

I liked their simplistic approach to metal (they are metal, right?). The economy of riffs still made my head bang. its like they took the most basic element of metal [the riff] and turned it into a hypnotic tool. imo its a good mix of american hardcore and sludge without being blatantly southern / stoner. heck, even the vox on Unsung sound like Ozzy.

Helmet - 'Meantime' was one of my earliest CDs. Back then I was too immature to appreciate it - don't get me wrong, I did appreciate it but not as much as Death Metal - and traded it away.
An interesting Helmet-related incident that happened with my friend who got me into metal. One day he went to a famous music store in my city and asked for their Helmet collection. The ignorant storekeeper replied "Sorry sir, we don't deal in motor accessories."

pinakanakakalitong paborito kong banda nung bata ako... the patterns in "in the meantime" & "strap it on" ay nakakaulol. cant sing and play the riffs kahit napakasimple lang ng drop d chords.
