I don't know where to talk about them so I chose this category. hehehe... They are metal but (I hate this term but) its not pure so there... I'm looking forward to "Saturday Night Wrist" I've listened to "Hole In The Earth" off www.deftones.com and I like what I'm hearing so far. I'm hoping it'll be out by the end of the month locally. Any one here dig 'em?

I remember back in college, you were the only guy in the group who's a BIG fan of deftones (after your obituary phase). I took you to CD warehouse in greenhills to buy around the fur, which after a week it came out in record bars everywhere and every wanna-be band is doing deftones covers.

Yeah, waiting a couple of days would have saved me a few bucks. It's worth it anyways. I like "Around The Fur" a lot. I like how they mix metal to new wave, if I may say so.

I really hated it when people would compare them to Korn or Limp Bizkit or even claim that they sound like each other just because they were said to be from the same music genre. This is how I was introduceed to the band with the video for "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)". It was nice to hear someone who could sing for a change after all the bombardment from The Florida Death Metal Scene.

That's what got me to listen to the Deftones when the Florida scene got saturated, I felt like I needed to take a break and listen to something that's not death metal. Perfect timing that my uncle from overseas was about to come home for vacation and at that time I have been reading a lot of Metal Hammer that always have something about the Deftones and I asked him to pick up a copy of "Adrenaline" and loved it.

im heavily into the deftones (although the 4th? album took too much off white pony) one of the very few bands who can effectively go from raging metal to acoustic to trippy electronica all in one album. and ofcourse the spirits of robert smith, and billy corgan haunting Chino's throat is also a welcomed trait. sucks that theyve always been lumped with the nu-metal crowd. i guess record execs and the media just didnt know how to categorize 'em. hey alex check your PM.

Yeah, they're definitely not nu-metal, but rather "new metal" as in its just a new generation. I really like White Pony a lot...I skipped out when they came to town for that tour cause I hate their fans and don't want to be sorrounded by that.

If you're into experimental and ambient music, try to check out Chino Moreno's side project; Team Sleep with DJ Crook. www.team-sleep.com/

Just listened to "Hole In The Earth" from www.deftones.com and I'm pretty impressed. Though Chino Moreno sounded like Chris Martin from Coldplay at first, but it didn't stop me from appreciating the different style they have to offer with production in the new album.

eh...you can prolly say that, they were responsible for the "Nu-Metal" explosion along with Korn but this band destroys 95% of the mainstream acts. each time they release a new album, they get heavier, less accessible and a whole lot more awesomer.

I can actually listen to bands of this ilk albeit it still has to be within the "metal" spectrum, say for instance, Mnemic... or Raunchy... bands from Denmark... or Threat Signal from Cana-duh... but then again, now that I think of it, these are actually bands that has its base sound via Fear Factory's cyber metal-ness, so...

Then i guess yer listening to em the wrong way.. Think more along the lines of 90s post hardcore (whatever that means) - noisier guitar lines.. lots of huge open chords - they probably have more in common with Helmet, 16, Only Living Witness, Bloodlet, QUICKSAND.. along with the occasional Cavalera influenced riffs on Around The Fur.. Then add some Corgan and Radiohead weirdness into the mix.

I loved Deftones when they came out with 'Around the Fur'. It was one of my favorite albums back in '97/'98. However, I bailed out on them when 'White Pony' came out and local radio was over-playing 'Back to School' which sucked immensely that I turned my back on the band for 8 years.
So now, someone let go of his copy of Around the Fur, White Pony and the self-tiled one, so I gave Deftones another chance. Damn, was I wrong on White Pony! Reading their Wikipedia entry while listening to the music, as it turned out that 'Back to School' single was more of the idea of the record label and it wasn't even on the album in the first place!
Forgive me, Deftones. Now I'm out to get a copy of Satruday Night Wrist.

deftones is what i call an alternative music, an alternative in getting away clean from the deathmetal side of music...my friends then would laugh at me for digging them, pity they never appreciated good music even if they heard em....i influenced them to dig deathmetal but i cant convince them that deftones is all good shit,,,, if there is really a good "shit!" anyways i got "around the fur" first then "white pony" then "adrenaline", its all good,, how about the new album? anyone got it yet?
