Got this from another board which is pretty interesting since we've been seeing alot of people in here getting gifts from gf/wife/etc.
How do you get along with your better half when it comes to music? how does her family feel with your taste? how about people who doesnt have a clue what "satanic forcefucked" or "Women are punching bag for my dick" kind of shirts? do you wear them in public?

My wife doesn't like it at all up until now but she got the hang of it, She really doesn't care about the whole evil thing with shirts and the artwork and stuff but what she doesn't really understand is the whole financial side of buying records all the time that's what pisses her off she always tells me that i should see a doctor for she thinks its addiction already( I think she's right hehe). A lot of heated debates and arguments ensued all these years just made her realize it was my only passion hehe but as 2008 entered things started to change after that trip she had and she bought me the Metallica LP it was like a peace offering hehe. But being a Father and a husband makes things more challenging financially but im up for the challenge there's no mountain too high as long as you have ropes hehehehe. My in-laws are great. For other people Fuck them hehe

I'm fortunate because my wife understands my lifestyle. She doesn't like it, but she respects what I'm into.
Her family asks me why I like this music, and why I'm always in black. I explain my passion for metal by comparing it to movies. I tell them that I like horror movies and that I like music that's about horror too. About always wearing black, I just tell them that I'm comfortable wearing it.
I wear band shirts all the time, except of course for occasions that I need to dress properly, but I usually wear the blasphemous and perverted ones at gigs.

;D pag asa labas naman ako.wala pa naman ako nakasalubong na nagbigay sakin ng "the evil eye".pero ok lang sakin kung ganon sila makatingin.im supporting the band that i like.thats all. tama. personal pleasure lang. fuck what the others have to say.

I'm not married, so right now I don't have to worry about wives or in-laws commenting about my taste for metal.
When I was college, I was pretty much one of the few in our circle of friends that listens to metal, so I used to get a lot of jokes from them. Even from some of our female classmates, na-weirdohan sila nung narinig nila akong nakikinig ng Obituary one time. I get the usual 'adik ka ba?', 'satanista ka ba?' crap. But I didn't mind, bahala sila sa buhay nila, hehe.
As for the get-up, I rarely wear metal or rock-related shirts so I usually blend in with the other 'normal' people. I rarely advertise my liking for metal anyway. It's when I do wear this or that shirt, or when they learn that I listen to this or that stuff when I hear those same comments. Like one time in a training, I was wearing a Human Mastication shirt at the time. The trainer looks at me funny, then says to me 'ano yang nasa t-shirt mo, ang sagwa! metal ka siguro...', hehe....

Its okay to play my music at my folk's home, just as long as its the appropriate level. I mean even if its Frank Sinatra or The Beatles, if you play them at full blast in the middle of the night I think it would be very irritating for most of us.
(Noel Queja is the former vocalist of Brimstone In Fire, my mom knows what he is capable of doing cause on my 18th birthday I invited them over to play at my house to jam.)

Early '90s College, I'm wearing my old Slaytanic Wehrmacht shirt and listening to 'Reign in Blood' on my walkman (wala pa 'kong discman noon) on battery powered 3" speakers in the waiting area near the car park.
Born-again Christian College Classmate: "Ba't ka nakikinig nyan, masama yan; di mo ba alam galing sa demonyo yan? Satanista ka ba?"
DB: (being sarcastic, but delivered deadpan) "Oo, satanista ako." -- I'm not. I'm an atheist. But we don't believe in the existence of Satan either. --
Born-again Christian College Classmate: (color drains from face) "Ah...."

Mom (after looking at my shirts with inverted crosses and shit): "Patawarin tayo ng Diyos!" (sabay sign of the cross lol) Nasanay na rin siya hehe. My folks are very cool when it comes to my music. Paano pag magka-emergency ang pamilya?", they would say. Rakista friend: "Pare, lupit ng shirt mo! Saan mo naiskor?" I'm usually quiet, introverted and nonconfrontational.

Hahaha yeah I can totally relate with you guys. My girlfriend is fine by me listening to metal, she likes some of them like some traditional doom or something but not as extreme and unlistenable as oath of black blood, hehe. But I like the fact that she is trying to like it because she knows that this is probably where I spend most of my time on, she even buys me some badass records too sometimes, hell, she even bought me the Von die hard not too long ago when it came out. My family doesnt really mind me listening to this music basta hinde lang masyado malakas like xxxtian said, which is totally understandable. They are probably used to it after all these years. The only complain they have from me ay katulad den sa inyo, twing may makikita sila na packages at boxes na madalas sasabihan nila ako na I better save some money for the rainy days, I do, but actually saving it for the upcoming releases. hehe As for the public, Like alex, I wear band shirts everyday since those are the majority type of clothing I own. I rarely wear obscene shirts in public, yung band shirts lang na wlang slogan na offensive, I wear them at gigs tho, I just avoid having a heated conversation with some old white grandma about people "these days". Here's myself in disneyland wearing a kid friendly diocletian shirt. lol

I work in a call center and being the only metalhead there and wearing all these shirts it scares and alienates people like most of you haha. Most of the time, the people I talk to are the janitors, security guards and the drunks. I like it that people can't understand you and will sometimes underestimate you, think of you stereotypically and it's a good chance to prove them wrong (most of the time you succeed in doing so). it's also fun to play the part of these stereotypes with ignorant people so they just leave you alone and avoid bothering you.
I have no problem with my family when it comes to metal. for the longest time my dad never questioned my music and even gave me money to splurge on booze, gigs and CD's/cassettes (when I didn't have a card back in the 90's he lent me his so I can order from Relapse hehe). One of my younger brothers listens to metal because of me. My mom used to lecture me about "being saved" after browsing through my stuff but now she understands... the only problem i've had was when a person from the other side of the neighborhood complained about the loud electric wizard playing at 2 am hehehe
It was a different story with my gf, one of the reasons why we split up is because i'm still a geek about it and spend a considerable amount on merch and records, religiously listen to metal, go and watch gigs and wear metal shirts etc. she wanted me to change and become a different person and could not accept me for who i am despite being devoted to her. you can't always win in life when you're a metalhead and you have to accept that

As far as playing metal music goes, my mom doesn't bother me as she used to when I was younger. I guess she got used to it.
As for as my metal music collection, I don't get bothered with it any longer since I earn my own money and am able to give my share in the house expenses without fail.
In the office, the most frequent comment I'd get is that they didn't figure that I'd be a metalhead since I'm relatively clean cut and the only thing that gave my metal-ness away was my metal shirts.
As far as metal shirts, I'd have co-employees comment that I look like I always come from a gig because of my shirts.
My ex couldn't stand metal music and I'd just end up not playing any music at all when she was with me in the car. That's why she's an ex I guess.

It's also fun to play the part of these stereotypes with ignorant people so they just leave you alone and avoid bothering you. but at the same time there are those who play the part specifically to attract attention. go figure. lalo na ngayon uso ang maging troo, oldskool and elite. I have no problems with my family when it comes to my listening metal music, pero pag mejo andito sila lahat eh syempre kaialngan ko din makisama kahit na hindi nila sabihing hinaan or patayin ko, eh ginagawa ko kasi alam ko naiistorbo din sila kahit papano. oo naman respeto na lang din sa dapat irespeto. gaya nga ng sabi ni xxxtian, kahit naman tayo naiingayan din kapag biglang nagpasambulat yung iba ng martin nievera o kahit ano pa mang love song.

Which is what literally will happen if you go to the gig on September 12. Hahaha! Speaking of having a clean haircut. When I first attended a gig here in Singapore (Dismember), I noticed that there are few metalheads with long hair. I asked, and the locals said that it's because of their NS (National Service). If they are called in by the government for training, they have no choice, but to cut their hair. So it's pointless for some to grow their hair long.

Adding to my previous post, I like the reaction when people from my office (or from other places, for that matter) learn that I listen to metal. Like Defector, sabi nila di obvious from the way I look or dress most of the time. My college friends still like to make fun of me, though. lol.
As far as home goes, mas tolerant ang mga kasama ko ngayon compared to before. I just give consideration by not playing at high volume too much.
I remember my ex getting spooked while looking at the covers of some of my CD's, but tolerating the music when she heard it.

I remember my ex commenting that most of the covers of my CDs had skulls on them. I didn't agree with her and then she told me to look at the CDs that I just bought - Testament's 'The Legacy' and Overkill's 'Years of Decay' - albums with skulls on the cover. It was only that point that I realized that indeed most metal covers had skulls in them! Funny and stupid it may seem but before that point, I hadn't realized that fact.
